COLORADO SPRINGS – Saturday, southern Colorado residents did their part to help children in foster care.

“Cases of Love” held a collection event at Nordstrom Rack on Academy Blvd. to collect suitcases and duffel bags.

Organizers said more than 100 suitcases and bags were collected for kids who often have to carry their belongings in trash bags as they move through the foster system.

“We’re trying to bring a sense of normalcy in what is a tumultuous time in their lives,”  said Cases of Love founder, Becky Wyzykowski.

“Imagine handing a trash bag to a kid and saying ‘Here, put your things in this’ and handing them a suitcase and saying ‘Here, put your things in this.’ You can just see the difference,” she described.

“You get little kids and you get big kids and it’s all the same, they just walk away with a huge smile on their face.”

At any given time, there are around 900 children in foster care in Colorado Springs.

Cases of Love also has a collection event scheduled at the Pueblo Association of Realtors from May 20th through the 24th.

The group will also have another major drive in the month of July.
