COLORADO SPRINGS — Red Cross volunteers were busy today installing smoke detectors and installing others for families in need in the community.

The effort is part of a nationwide campaign to “sound the alarm” against fires inside homes and help to give families the warning they need to escape danger.

One of the site’s volunteers were canvassing was a mobile home community on Western Drive.

This effort could likely save lives, home fires kill more people each year than all other natural disasters combined.

Nationwide the Red Cross will distribute 100,000 detectors and reminds all families to frequently check the batteries and operational status of detectors.
