Suspect at-large after exchanging fire with state trooper in southern Colorado

ANTONITO – According to Colorado State Patrol, a suspect wanted on a warrant in southern Colorado fired at a state trooper later Saturday night.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the area of E. 9th Ave. and Front St. in Antonito, Colorado.

According to reporting partner Denver 7, the incident began when a trooper tried to stop the vehicle of a 39-year-old man with a felony warrant. The man failed to stop and a chase ensued.

State Patrol said “vehicle intervention occurred” and the suspect fired at the trooper. The trooper returned one shot. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Both the suspect and a 28-year-old woman who was with him escaped their vehicle on foot, but the woman was captured a short time later. She sustained minor injuries and was booked into the Conejo County Jail after being taken to a local hospital, according to State Patrol.

The identities of the involved parties have not been released.

At this time, the suspect remains at large.
