COLORADO SPRINGS – A driver suffered serious injuries after police said he rear-ended a city street sweeper on Powers Boulevard early Thursday morning.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes near the intersection of Platte and Powers sometime around 2:30 a.m., and it forced the closure of Powers for a short time overnight. Northbound lanes were reopened just before 6 a.m.
Police said it appears that the driver of the truck did not break before colliding with the sweeper. Officers told News5’s Shayla Girardin that alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash. They said the sweeper’s lights were on at the time.
The driver’s name has not been released at this time.
