COLORADO SPRINGS – More than 150 5th graders from 94 schools took part in “Battle of the Books” Thursday at Colorado College.
Over the last year, the students read 40 chosen books. Thursday they worked in teams to answer questions about those books, but it’s not just about who answered the most questions.
“In all reality, they’re all winners, because they’ve stuck with it. They work hard,” said organizer Dawn Petty. “They’ve made friends, they’ve read books they may have never, ever picked up.”
The Battle of the Books started in 1986 as a program to encourage kids to read.
