FOUNTAIN – Governor Polis signed the “Red Flag Bill” into law this week and many people locally are voicing their opinions on the matter.

At a town hall Saturday in Fountain, El Paso County Republicans, Rep. Lois Landgraf, and Sen. Dennis Hisey joined El Paso County Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez and State Director of the NRA to take questions from the public.

“I know the bill is well-intended right,” said Police Chief, Chris Heberer. “I’m not going to talk about the bill and if we get the order, we’re going to enforce, but it puts…anytime you put law enforcement against the people everyone loses.”

Supporters of the bill say it will save lives by allowing people to ask a judge to remove weapons from someone who is deemed to be a risk to themselves or others.
