COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating an auto/pedestrian accident that occurred Sunday afternoon on the east side of the city.

The accident happened sometime around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Pace Dr. and S. Academy Blvd.

CSPD told a News5 crew that a pedestrian, identified only as an adult woman,  was hit while using the crosswalk against the flow of traffic. Witnesses reported that she did not have the right of way.

A vehicle struck the woman, then side-swiped another vehicle, leading to a three-vehicle accident. Police told News5 the driver of the vehicle ran away from the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.

Academy Boulevard was closed for about four hours.

Later, CSPD confirmed the woman was stable, but in serious condition.
