COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs police said a suspect shot at an officer early Wednesday morning in the southeast part of the city.

Police said it happened around 3:19 a.m. while they were investigating multiple reports of shots fired near the intersection of Fountain and Murray. While on scene, officers heard another shot in the area, and that’s when they identified a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Police described the vehicle as a small, maroon boxy SUV. They said it began driving erratically when the driver spotted police, but police weren’t able to stop the SUV.

Officers continued to search the area when police said the vehicle sped past a marked patrol car and a passenger inside the SUV shot at the officer near the intersection of Crestline Drive and Airport Road. Luckily, the officer was not hit.

Police said they weren’t able to find the SUV, but they were able to recover a shell casing in the area. No suspects have been named at this time.
