One person killed, another injured in house explosion in Grand County

GRAND COUNTY – One person was killed and another suffered severe burns after a house exploded and burst into flames early Sunday morning in Grand County.

According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, their Communications Center received a report of a structure fire and explosion on Mad Moose Ln. around 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning.

Emergency crews responded quickly but found the house was a total loss.

Two people were at the home and one was found outside when crews arrived, according to the Grand Lake Fire Protection District. The second person was unaccounted for.That second person was found dead later Sunday. The first person was transported to a Denver area hospital with severe burns.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames but stayed on scene as the cause of the fire is under investigation.
