PUEBLO – A murder suspect from a cold case in Texas is now in jail in Pueblo, 25 years after the crime was committed. Jessie Hogue, 73, was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop in Pueblo West by deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshals.

Hogue is accused of killing his ex-wife Jackie in Amarillo back in 1994. Potter County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Steve White said deputies had believed Hogue was responsible for the crime, “from the very beginning.”

Despite the divorce, Hogue remained in the home with Jackie and her four children. She was shot to death in February of 1994. The gun used to kill Jackie was never found.

“She had 3 jobs, she worked very, very hard and she was found by one of her sons as well as her mother lying in her bed,” White said. “She’d been shot twice in the back of the head.”

Producers with the Oxygen Network’s true crime series Cold Justice contacted the sheriff’s office last summer to express an interest in the case. In January, they met at the sheriff’s office in Amarillo to reopen the files.

“We just went back over to the file again, we talked to each and every person that was originally talked to and we were able to get some clarification and actually present that to the grand jury,” White said.

The grand jury indictment came last Wednesday. White contacted the authorities in Pueblo and the Marshals Service who arrested Hogue during a traffic stop near the intersection of Platteville Boulevard and Raymont Drive.

“Everybody worked together to bring this man to justice and we’re looking forward to extraditing him and bringing back to the State of Texas to face this charge,” White said.

News 5 searched court records which showed Hogue had lived in Colorado for several years. He was given a traffic ticket by state troopers in 2003 and had DUI arrests in 2005 and 2014. Hogue seems to have kept a low profile. When we visited some of his former addresses, none of the neighbors recognized him.

An extradition hearing has not yet been announced. The Cold Justice episode featuring the Hogue case will air on Saturday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m. on Oxygen.
