EL PASO COUNTY – El Paso County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man after he was ejected from a car during a car chase that reached high speeds early Thursday morning.

Authorities said they arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Boyd after he shut off the headlights to his Audi and crashed near the intersection of Marksheffel and Peaceful Ridge while being followed by deputies.

It all started when a deputy noticed a light-colored Audi driving erratically and pulled the car over near the intersection of Marksheffel Road and Space Village Drive. The deputy ran the vehicle’s plates, which matched a black Audi instead.

The sheriff’s office said the driver showed signs of being impaired and the man didn’t have identification. When the suspect was told to get out of the car, that’s when he drove away. Deputies said Boyd followed speed limits at first, but then began driving at a “high rate of speed” shortly before he crashed.

Boyd was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and vehicular eluding with substantial risk of death to another. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said he was previously wanted on several outstanding warrants including charges of assaulting a peace officer before his arrest on Thursday.
