FORT CARSON – The 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, is hosting a memorial and dedication ceremony this Thursday to honor Vietnam Veterans who fought in the Battle of Suoi Tre.

This ceremony marks the culmination of Heritage Week, an annual event that honors and remembers the Veterans who laid down their lives in the Battle of Suoi Tre on March 21, 1967.

At Suoi Tre, artillery soldiers fought side by side with infantry soldiers during a desperate battle that included hand-to-hand combat.

In just over five hours of fighting, the 4th Infantry Division units used more than 3,000 round of ordnance, killing nearly 650 enemies.

“The Battle of Suoi Tree is an important part of our unit history from the Vietnam War,” Lt. Col. Aaron Thomas said. “The battle was fought 52 years ago and we are humbled to be able to honor those who served, and especially those who sacrificed their lives for their brothers in arms. The memorial ceremony allows us to connect the current generation of Soldiers from 2nd Bn., 77th FA Reg., and 2nd Bn., 12th Infantry Regiment with those of the past, and ensure that we never forget the sacrifices of those who came before us.”

The ceremony is being held in the brigade area starting at 10 a.m. Thursday.
