EL PASO COUNTY – After nearly three hours of testimony and discussion Tuesday, the El Paso County Planning Commission voted to approve Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s plans to build a shooting range at Ramah State Wildlife Area.

The commission approved the plans with a 4 – 2 vote.

Frank McGee, CPW manager for the Pikes Peak Region said a shooting range at Ramah SWA will give recreational shooters a safe place to shoot that also protects neighbors.

The range will have 10-foot-high berms and baffles designed to prevent stray bullets and muffle noise, according to CPW.

CPW said the range will also have shade shelters and all-weather firing benches.

The agency hopes construction will begin by the end of 2019 and plans to spend $500,000 in federal grants on the project.
