COLORADO SPRINGS – The City of Colorado Springs is asking for feedback about a plan to build a memorial for the city’s first and only black mayor, Leon Young.

The city will reveal its plan to revitalize the Leon Young Pavilion and memorial at Shooks Run park in a community meeting on Tuesday. The meeting will be held at the Hillside Community Center at 925 S. Institute Street.

The city will also form a committee to help plan the memorial, which will be located near the pavilion at South Shooks Run Park. Revitalization efforts at the park are scheduled to begin this summer.

The city said funding for the improvements at the park was made possible by a community development block grant and a grant from the Colorado Trust.
