DENVER – One of two people shot in a confrontation with federal agents Friday afternoon in Denver has died.

Denver police said the man died from his injuries at the hospital. A woman who was also injured remains hospitalized. Her injuries are not life-threatening, according to DPD.

Police have not released the identity of either person.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, U.S. Marshals, with the help of a federal task force, tried to get in touch with a man in the 200 block of South Canosa Court, near Mile High Stadium. DPD says the man was wanted on a federal warrant for a probation violation.

Police say when agents found the man in a vehicle, at least one member of the task force fired shots into the vehicle, hitting the man and a woman who was driving.

It’s unknown what prompted the agent to open fire, or if there was an exchange of gunfire.

The Denver Police Department did not have any officers involved in the shooting, but is handling the investigation because it happened in the city.
