CSPD identifies officers involved in shooting that left man with injuries

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Police Department released the names of the officers who were involved in a shooting that left a man injured on Jan. 23.

CSPD said Officers Max Nevarez and Matthew Waldera were involved in the shooting. Both officers have served with CSPD for seven years and both are assigned to the Sand Creek Division. They were placed on routine paid administrative leave following the incident.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, which left 32-year-old Thomas McGeorge with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the at the Mountain Ridge Apartments around 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 23 when a 911 caller reported that multiple shots had been fired in the area. When they responded, they shot McGeorge, who was armed.

He was booked into the El Paso County jail on two counts of felony menacing,  third-degree assault, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
