EL PASO COUNTY – An 11-year-old is surprised with a big honor for saving his mother’s life.
The El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority recognized Matthew Hanson at Columbine Elementary School Friday afternoon.
Last November, Hansen’s mom was struggling to breathe so he called 911. Dispatchers say he was composed and polite, and able to answer questions. He also reassured his mother help would arrive.
Hansen says it was a scary experience. “I was thinking what if my mom doesn’t make it through this? Is she going to be okay?”
During the presentation to honor Matthew other kids also learned how to use 911 in an emergency.
