CANON CITY – Canon City could be one step closer to making it big on the Hulu TV show Small Business Revolution – Main Street.

On Thursday night, the town came together for a huge rally to keep the momentum going.

Canon City is currently in the Top 10 and the goal is to make it to the Top 5. Between the rally and a visit from the Small Business Revolution team, residents are hopeful they’ll make it all the way.

Debbie Lake, owner of Classic Furniture, said, “It’s in the air. You can feel it. The energy is here.”

Resident Kim Spechtenhauser said, “It’s exploding. That’s why all these people are here…this event tonight is something that is a big honor for us.”

Canon City is the last stop on the Top 10 tour.

Julie Gordon of Small Business Revolution said, “We interview business owners and trying to hear like what brought them to Canon City, why did they start their business…overall the vibe has been very positive. People have shared what they think they need downtown…maybe some more restaurants that cater to a little more fine dining perhaps.”

Which could happen if Canon City is chosen to be featured on the next season of the show. $500,000 would be divided up between six businesses and the town for revitalization. The goal: to boost foot traffic and revenue for struggling shops.

Spechtenhauser said, “We’re pretty close.”

Gordon said the Small Business Revolution crew will head back to Minneapolis on Friday. The Top 5 winners will be announced on February 12th. After that it goes to a national vote.
