COLORADO SPRINGS – Emergency pothole repair on lanes through the I-25 gap construction project required moving lanes closures just before noon Thursday. “It is mobile,” said Bob Wilson with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), “So there’s a lane closed, but that lane closure continues to move.”  Traffic does back up quickly. The moving closure is intended to shorten the impact to drivers.

Safety is priority with the gap project, where lanes are restricted and narrow. It means exceptions to the priority of keeping two lanes open during daylight hours. “It’s a safety issue. If we have massive potholes in there, that can create a lot of people swerving and that creates a safety issue in itself, “said Wilson. Pothole repair during the winter has to happen during daylight hours when it is warmer.
