COLORADO SPRINGS – A man accused of trying to flee the scene of a drunk driving crash that seriously injured a one-year-old child last fall is sentenced to 6 years in prison.
William James Alexander received the sentence on charges of Vehicular Assault-DUI and Driving Under the Influence.
On September 30, 2018, witnesses stopped him from fleeing the scene of a rolled over GMC truck that hit an SUV before flipping on W Colorado Avenue. As some helped keep Alexander detained for police, others tried to help the child ejected from the truck in the crash.
Colorado Springs Police said the child was not in a safety seat or restrained by a seat belt in the truck. There’s no update on the condition of the child as of January.
Alexander was originally charged with Felony Child Abuse, Vehicular Assault, Leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and DUI.
