Pueblo Police arrest suspects accused in drug-related shooting

PUEBLO – Police arrested three suspects in connection with a shooting over a drug dispute.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, January 20th, Pueblo Police responded to a shooting on Chestnut Drive. One person was shot and the suspects fled the scene.

While officers were in route, they located a vehicle in the area of Cambridge Avenue and Northern Avenue that matched the suspects’ car description.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit started. The car was forcibly stopped in the 400 block of Cleveland Street. The suspects inside the car were 23-year-old Meliton Valdez, 20-year-old Bryan Thomas, and 35-year-old Danielle Baca.

All three suspects were taken into custody on charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Robbery, and Felony Eluding.

Thomas had an additional charge of Restraining Order Violation.

The victim is 26-year-old Frank Gonzales who survived a gunshot wound to his leg and a head injury from being hit with a firearm. The doctor who treated Gonzales at the hospital did not consider his injuries serious.
