PUEBLO WEST – The Pueblo County coroner said the person killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday night was an 18-year-old Pueblo man.

Deputies said Amiliano Apodaca, 18, was the male passenger who was killed following a car chase and shooting Sunday night. The woman driving the car, who authorities said drove the car in the direction of deputies, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities did not have an update on her condition Tuesday afternoon.

No deputies were hurt.

According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, it all started with a car chase in Fremont County that traveled east on Highway 50. According to authorities, the suspect hit a Fremont County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and nearly hit a Cañon City police car before crossing the Fremont/Pueblo County line.

Pueblo County deputies joined the chase around 10:30 p.m. when they performed a PIT maneuver near Platteville Boulevard and Matt Drive that pushed the car into an open field in Pueblo West.

Deputies said the driver drove through the field and started driving on McClave Drive. That’s when deputies executed a second PIT maneuver that forced the driver into the yard of a home in the 700 block of Chaparral Drive where the shooting happened.

The deputy who fired their weapon was placed on paid administrative leave.
