MONUMENT – There’s a police and firefighter presence along Highway 105 and I-25 in Monument as crews work to safely dispose of leaking propane tanks.

Reporter Zach Thaxton happened upon the scene this afternoon as a command center is set up in a parking lot, along with fire units, and part of the road blocked.

News5 is told a pickup driver delivering propane tanks noticed a few of the containers were leaking. He pulled over to check things out before calling 911 for assistance.

In order to dispose of the tanks safely, a bomb disposal robot is being used to move them into a field where a small hole was made in order to allow a release of pressure before a controlled detonation.
