COLORADO SPRINGS –  Colorado Springs Police have determined a woman killed in a parking lot along the 5600 block of N Academy Blvd Thursday afternoon died as the result of a freak accident.

The woman was found pinned by her vehicle in a parking lot before 2 p.m. Witnesses and emergency personnel tried to save her life.

Investigators determined she neglected to put the truck fully in park before she stepped in front of the vehicle. It rolled forward and pinned her into another car.

Fire and police crews had to move one vehicle in order to assess her injuries and examine the scene.

This is the first traffic fatality of 2019 in Colorado Springs. Last year was an unfortunate record year for the city with 48 people killed in car crashes, crashes involving pedestrians and crashes involving bicyclists.
