COLORADO SPRINGS – Earlier this month, the Springs Rescue Mission added 150 more beds for people in need.

Since adding the beds, staff members said they have seen 78 new people come through the doors for the first time.

With the addition of the new beds, the Rescue Mission now has the ability to host 450 people. The staff said there are now about 400 people utilizing the shelter.

With colder days ahead, the staff said they hope to provide life-saving shelter to anyone in the community who needs it, regardless of their challenges in life.

“At the Springs Rescue Mission, we’ve been a come as you are shelter so we’ve done everything we possibly can to remove as many barriers as possible so that folks can get out of the frigid temperatures,” said Travis Williams. “Job number one for us is to make sure people can live another day and they don’t die in these freezing temperatures.”

Having beds available is a welcome change for the Springs Rescue Mission. In October they were having to turn people away because there simply weren’t enough beds for them.
