EL PASO COUNTY – A woman from the Stramoor Hills area south of Colorado Springs went to the hospital this afternoon being checked out for injuries from a dog attack.

An El Paso County Deputy tells News5 the woman was trying to break up a fight between two dogs on Ericson St. when one of the animals, a pit bull turned on her.

Several people called 911 to report the attack that they were unable to stop. A medic unit arrived on scene within a few minutes, yet it took some time for a deputy and an animal control officer to arrive to get the dog away from the woman.

How badly the woman was injured is not clear as of this afternoon. An animal control officer was able to get control of the dog and secure it. They’ll now check to see if the animal has a history of aggressive behavior before deciding what will happen next.

Its not clear if the woman is the owner of the dog or if it belongs to a neighbor.
