COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs Police are continuing their search for two men suspected of stealing a rifle from a storage unit east of downtown early Thursday morning.
CSPD dispatched officers to a home off of Institute St. where a caller reported that two suspects stole a rifle, ammunition and other items from PODS storage units a little after 5 a.m. Thursday. The caller told police they last saw the suspects near Columbia Elementary School and the church located behind the school.
Police searched the area on foot and with a drone, but couldn’t find the suspects. District 11 delayed the start of classes at Columbia Elementary until police left the scene. Police determined the area was safe at 7 a.m. and allowed staff members to enter the school.
One suspect is described as a 5’8 to 5’9 male with a medium build. He was wearing a black jacket with a red hooded sweatshirt underneath. The other suspect is described as a 5’9 to 5’10 male with a thin build, wearing a baseball cap.
