COLORADO SPRINGS – Children at UCHealth Memorial Hospital were treated to Halloween fun this week with a special party in the pediatrics unit.

“The favorite part of my Halloween is getting a treat. But this week for Halloween party there is no treats,” said Jaxton, a patient. The kids colored masks and had costumes to wear with their parents.

Spirit Halloween store brought all of the goodies through their Spirit of Children program. The focus of the program is to make hospitals less scary for children.

“(I) Want to thank the hospital, this is an absolute, this was super cool, he was super excited to hear to even though he’s been stuck in a bed every day that he gets to actually come down and have a little party,” said parent Nathan McDonald.

“I think it’s a pretty cool event and it’s definitely a very nice thing to do for people,” said parent Marcos Cruz.

According to a news release, since its inception in 2006 the program has reached 140 hospitals across the nation.

One hundred percent of the money collected each year is given directly to the Child Life Departments at partner hospitals. The goal of the program is to raise $9 million dollars by the end of this year with donates accepted at Spirit Stores.
