COLORADO SPRINGS – Sports retailer SCHEELS announced Friday that it will open its second location in Colorado on the north side of Colorado Springs.

The Fargo-based company announced it has plans to open a 220,000 square foot store near the Great Wolf Lodge and Hollywood Theater located off of Interquest. The store is expected to open in April of 2021.

The company said the location will be similar to its location in Johnstown, Colorado. SCHEELS said the store will have a 65-foot tall Ferris wheel, a saltwater aquarium stocked with more than 600 fish, a “wildlife mountain,” arcade games along with restaurants and dining options inside the store.

The company said the building will feature 75 specialty shops “staffed by trained experts who focus on their passions.”

“With the success of our store in Johnstown, Colorado, we are thrilled to bring a second store to the Colorado market and specifically to Colorado Springs,” said SCHEELS CEO Steve M. Scheel in a news release.

SCHEELS said the store will employ more than 350 people, and the stores are employee owned.

There are currently 27 SCHEELS stores open in 12 states, including the location in Johnstown. When finished, the Colorado Springs location is set to be the company’s 29th.
