COLORADO SPRINGS – The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified a man shot and killed during an attempted robbery at a home in the 2700 block of Flintridge Circle Saturday.

The man, later identified as 30-year-old Houston Malachai Cookson of Colorado Springs, was shot on October 6 while attempting to break into a home. Colorado Springs Police officers were dispatched to the address just before 8:30 p.m.

Officers found Cookson with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso on the rear patio of the home, according to CSPD. Violent Crime Section detectives said Cookson was attempting to get into the home when a resident confronted him and shot him.

Cookson sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he then died. Police said he was in possession of confirmed stolen items from another incident.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section is the lead in the investigation and will present the case to the District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
