COLORADO SPRINGS – A man is dead after he was hit by a car on Tejon Street, Friday morning. It is a tragedy that draws attention to a dangerous trend. This death takes Colorado Springs to a point statistically comparable to some of the worst years for traffic deaths.

Looking into police records, they show numbers back to 1980. The number with three months left in 2018 is 39 traffic fatalities. The number was 39 for all of 2017 was 39. The number is the second worst from available records. The only year with more is 1986 when 43 people died in traffic incidents.

“One fatality is way too many and especially when we’re talking, just about every fatality that we’ve been out on, these are all avoidable,” said Colorado Springs Police Department, Lieutenant Howard Black. Police everyone aware of the numbers. With traffic fatalities they do not want to see new records, they want to prevent them.
