EL PASO COUNTY – The non-profit group Shield 616 presented 24 active shooter protection kits to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Thursday night.

Deputies said it took a year and a half to raise enough money to purchase the kits. Local businesses, churches and other groups help raise the money.

Shield 616 was created shortly after the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs in 2015.

Since then, the group has donated protective gear to Colorado Springs Police officers, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies, Colorado Springs firefighters, Florence Police and it even donated a K9 to Fountain Police.
