COLORADO SPRINGS – Third graders at Fremont Elementary in District 11 are learning a lesson that can only come outside of a textbook.

All year long, the students are completing random acts of kindness.

“Just trying to teach them that kindness is free and kindness comes in many different forms and look many different ways,” said third grade teacher Rebecca Daugherty.

So far this school year the students have written to cards to all the teachers at their school, created signs for the school and made bookmarks to put in library books so readers could have a nice surprise.

“The kids love it,” Daugherty said. “They talk about it and they tell their friends and they tell their family and it’s just a way to spread kindness and they love it,”

The students latest project involved sending art work to ICU patients at a Denver hospital.
