COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking everyone to help pitch in to wish Officer Cem Duzel a happy birthday as he undergoes treatment at a rehabilitation hospital in the Denver-metro area.

Officer Duzel suffered the grave injury on August 2nd as he responded to a call on E. Boulder for a man firing shots in the area. Within minutes Duzel was shot in the head and fellow officers had the suspect in custody.
He was discharged from UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital on August 28th to undergo rehab at Craig Hospital in Englewood.
As he was leaving the hospital in Colorado Springs, nearly 150 police officers and members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office gathered to show support.

Karrar Noaman Al Khammasi, the suspect in the shooting, is being held on a $1 million bond. He faces multiple charges including criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
