PUEBLO – Fire up the roasters and prepare your taste buds, the annual Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival is here.
The festival starts on Friday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. and continues through Sunday evening.
The festival is one of the biggest events every year in the Steel City. It celebrates the chile harvest with events, vendors, live music and fun food competitions and averages 140,000 attendees over the three days.
Here is the schedule this year:
Friday: 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.
- The farmer’s market, vendors and entertainment tents will open at 3 p.m. and will be open all day
- Street vendors and live entertainment will perform to kick off the festival.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
- The farmer’s market, vendors and entertainment tents will open at 10 a.m. and will be available all day
- At 2 p.m. there will be a Chihuahua parade with prizes available for dogs with the best costume and other categories.
- At 2:15 p.m. The “Chili & Salsa Showdown” results will be announced for the commercial category
Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- At 8 a.m., the “Too Hot to Trot” 5K, 10K and 2-mile walk will start. The Kiddie K starts at 7:30 a.m.
- The farmer’s market, vendors and entertainment tents will open at 10 a.m. and will be available until 6 p.m.
- At 2:15 p.m., the results for the non-commercial “Chili & Salsa Showdown” competition will be announced
- At 4 p.m. the Jalapeño eating contest will begin
The festival will be held on N. Union Avenue and will shut down the street for the weekend.
Free parking shuttles are available from the Midtown Shopping Center parking lot, the Greater Pueblo Chamber parking lot and the Main Street Parking Garage.
Tickets are $5 for adults and children under 12 get in for free.
