Missing Virginia man found in North Colony Lakes area

CUSTER COUNTY – A 50-year-old Virginia man who went missing in the North Colony Lakes area of Custer County has been found.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office said 50-year-old Jeffery Jamison was reported missing Saturday afternoon after not returning from a climbing trip. According to a release, Jamison was last heard from via text message last Wednesday.

Multiple agencies conducted a search for the missing Virginia man, this includes 30 volunteers Custer County, Saguache County, Fremont County and the Western State Mountain Rescue team.

The Colorado State Rescue Board, The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, multiple air resources and more assisted in the search.

There were no injuries reported during the incident, to Jamison or any volunteers, rescue teams. Custer County Search and Rescue would like to remind backcountry users to carry 10 essentials needed and leave a detailed itinerary with friends or family at your campsite.

The itinerary should include a description of what you are wearing, including outerwear and what you are carrying. Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) can also help in locating a missing person quickly.
