COLORADO SPRINGS – Safety improvements will restrict access to the sidewalk along U.S. Highway 24 and 31st Street for several months.
The closure is expected to last two months and is part of the larger U.S. 24 at 31st Street and Ridge Road Intersection Project. There will be a detour posted for pedestrians near the project zone and everyone who is not in a vehicle is being encouraged to cross at the 26th Street intersection to avoid the cone zone.
The entire project will update the roadway as well as upgrade ADA ramps for accessibility. There will also be upgrades to signals and sewer lines. The timeline for completion is winter of 2018.
Work crews are on site Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with night and weekend work added in as needed. There are closures in place along the shoulder of U.S./Hwy. 24 for drivers, however, two lanes eastbound and westbound will always be open to traffic between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
