COLORADO SPRINGS — A teenager is now in police custody and facing two counts of murder in the first degree for a double shooting on the grounds of Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy in Colorado Springs in late June.

The name of the 17-year-old suspect is not being released at this time. According to police, he was arrested last week by members of the CSPD’s Violent Crimes Offender Fugitive Task Force, Tactical Enforcement, and K-9 Units.

The victims, 18-year-old Kevin Santana-Villa and 22-year-old Diego Cruz-Aceves, were both found with fatal gunshot wounds in a field near East Bijou Street and North Murray Boulevard.

Santana-Villa was pronounced dead at the scene on the running track. Cruz-Aceves died at the hospital.

Colorado Springs Police stated earlier there appeared to be an argument between two groups that resulted in gunfire near the school. Further details on a possible motive have not been released.
