ELBERT COUNTY – A group of kids from the Pikes Peak Region Boys and Girls Club had the chance to get out of the city and taste a slice of the country life Wednesday.

The event the kids from the Boys and Girls Club attended Wednesday is called “The Day on the Range.” It’s a partnership that the Pikes Peak Range Riders Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club put together five or six years ago.

50 to 60 kids participate in the program each year, which is held at the Latigo Trails Equestrian Center.

During the event, the kids learn about things like life on the open range and different uses for horses and other animals. They get to experience a petting zoo, learn about the importance of branding, and even get to ride horses.

The folks from the Range Riders Foundation say the station the kids most look forward to is riding the horses.

And of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without some cowboy storytelling and singing.
