FLORENCE – A juvenile could face charges after Florence Police School resource officers received a call of a student with a gun Monday.

Officers received reports of a student with a gun on a bus at the Fremont Elementary School at 500 W 5th Street in Florence Monday. Law enforcement officers with the Florence Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, and BLM, quickly responded to the scene.

The Fremont Elementary School was then placed on lockdown status as all buses were halted. The juvenile in question was found on the bus and detained by police.

However, no weapon was found. Police said this was determined to be a verbal threat only, as no weapon was seen or located at any point.

Once the scene was considered secure the lockdown was lifted and all buses continued to load students. Parents were also then able to pick up students at the school.

Florence Police School Resource Officers are handling the incident and will charge the juvenile, according to a release.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.
