CRIPPLE CREEK – Cripple Creek’s famous donkeys are free again!

The herd is kept warm and cozy during the winter in a pen next to the Mountain View Adventure Park in town.

Wednesday, the burros were released back into the wild to roam the town and surrounding areas for the warmer months.

“It’s a throwback to the mining heritage whenever they discovered gold here in the 1890s,” said … “The donkeys brought everything in really.”

The donkeys have been in Cripple Creek since before trains even made it into town. They were released once technology made things easier, but the herd remained in town.

The donkeys will be out and about until November.
