WAYNESVILLE, NC – The body of Riley Howell, 21, is back in his hometown.

Howell is being hailed as a hero after he knocked down the gunman who shot him and five others at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Tuesday.

Thursday Howell’s body was escorted from Charlotte to his hometown of Waynesville, North Carolina.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Howell died when he fought the gunman, and in doing so he saved others’ lives.

Howell and 19-year-old Ellis Parlier both died in the shooting. Four other students were injured.
