With all this snow we’re having, we talked to CDOT about the impact this has on their budget and stores.

CDOT has been hard at work treating our roads all winter long, and they’re not planning on slowing down.

Here’s how it works! CDOT has one budget for maintenance with a specified amount for Summer and Winter. They tell us that budget has to be flux, in case they have to borrow funds from the Summer. They don’t save materials year to year like treatments or sand but they can ask for additional resources, including people, from other regions.

“There’s never going to be a time when we say we’re not snow plowing because we’re out of budget,” explained CDOT Communications Director Michelle Peulen. “That’s just not going to happen, so plowing snow is our top priority.”

Normally, CDOT has used 62% of their budget by this time of year. Currently, they’ve used 67% of their budget.
