ELWOOD, IN – An Indiana school superintendent turned in her letter or resignation, after facing insurance fraud charges.

Dr. Casey Smitherman admitted to having a student pose as her own son in order to get him healthcare last month.

A school board meeting ended with a unanimous decision to accept the superintendent’s resignation, which takes effect immediately.

The assistant superintendent will run the district until a replacement can be found.
