CANON CITY – A man and boy died when a fire burned through a trailer on the north edge of Canon City, Wednesday morning. The fifth wheel type trailer and a vehicle parked next to it were completely burned. Relatives, friends and neighbors at the scene say the man lived in the trailer with his preschool age boy.

Just after 5:00 a.m. Canon City Firefighters were dispatched. They say they could see the fires glow from far away as they drove to the scene. “The entire trailer was fully involved in flames,” said Lieutenant Shane Roberts with Canon City Fire Protection District.

Firefighters were told there may be people inside, but when they arrived they faced flames so intense they could not get past them. “They had to go defensive right off the bat, which means we couldn’t go interior because the fire had already spread through the entire trailer. So there’s no way to make an interior attack,“ said Roberts. Firefighters knocked down flames quickly and had the fire under control in less than 45 minutes. While taking control they confirmed fatalities inside.

Because of the deaths the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Bureau of Investigation joined the fire investigation. The worked from sun up to sun down going the rubble and ash left by the fire. They are looking for what caused the fire and if it is suspicious or an accident.
