CANON CITY – The Canon City Public Library wants to help you kill two birds with one stone if you have overdue books.

The library is continuing its annual Fines for Food Program that allows you to trade food for your overdue book fines.

The way the program works is if you bring in non-perishable food items along with your overdue library items, then the fines will be forgiven.

“Well it is a great feeling we are helping the community, the needy people, the homeless people,” said Suzanne Lasha. “We are also getting our books back so that is a big plus for us, and it’s a good feeling inside.

The donated food will be given to the Fremont Food Pantry.

The amnesty period lats until Dec. 31st.
