COLORADO SPRINGS — Catholic Charities is preparing to hand out meals to hundreds of local families, thanks in part to generous donations from Safeway and Albertson’s grocery stores and their shoppers.
The grocery stores held “turkey bucks” campaigns that has allowed customers to donate spare change to the cause or round up their total bill.
Following that campaign, more than 1,000 Thanksgiving meals were delivered to the Marion house early Monday and organizers are now scheduling pick ups for families in need who have already been identified. The community has stepped up to provide 150 more meals than were handed out last year.
