Using a dominant defensive effort, CSU-Pueblo took down rival Colorado School of Mines, 37-17 to advance in the Division II playoffs. They’ll play #1 Minnesota State-Mankato next Saturday on the road.
The Thunderwolves held Mines to 37 yards rushing, sacked quarterback Isaac Harker seven times and returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
“Coming back to their house we had to start fast right off the jump,” said defensive back Darius Williams. “It allowed us to play fast today.”
“When you play playoff type of football – it’s a game of momentum, it’s a game of ebbs and flows and we didn’t flinch at first and then it started going our way and we kept putting on steam,” said head coach John Wristen after the game.
Mines topped CSU-P in week three of the regular season 35-21 in Golden. Winning the “rematch” was a big point of emphasis for the Thunderwolves this week.
