COLORADO – The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles has been experiencing some problems statewide, following upgrades to the software system last week.

The state’s 35-year-old system was upgraded last week causing closures of DMV offices for several days. After re-opening this week, the system has had some issues.

News 5 learned that 17 million records had to be transferred as part of the $94 million project.

The problems the system has seen, along with the closures last week have caused wait times at DMV offices to be longer than normal in El Paso County.

“Every day we’re getting a little better, a little quicker,” said Chuck Broerman, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. “You know, with having been closed for several days last week, all of those 9-10 thousand citizens that would have been in our office last week are now coming here.”

Stat and County officials said they are working together to get things running smoothly. They advise using online services if possible until next week.
