Purple Heart

Purple Heart Day is taking place on Tuesday, August 7th. It’s a day to honor the brave men and women who have served and were either wounded in battle or paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The Purple Heart was originally created in 1872 by General George Washington. It was basically a footnote from the Revolutionary War until General Douglas MacArthur and the U.S. War Department developed the order of the Order of the Purple Heart.

Today, the medal features a bust of Washington and his coat of arms.
